This was my first stainless steel sculpture, and was inspired by some red plastic swizzle sticks for mixing drinks. In fact, I made the model for this sculpture out of those swizzle sticks. Because of the circular patterns ground into the finish on the oval discs, sunlight plays off them in surprising ways, causing bouncing light gleams and making it seem as if you could almost put your hand right into one. I always think of this sculpture as my outer space communications system – keeping in touch with home.
